Job Description:

Assumes responsibility for the coordination of the provision of Nursing Services insuring the continuous delivery of safe, evidenced based nursing care. Collaborates with physicians, nursing administration, unit directors and staff to expedite patient throughput across the care spectrum. Responsible for the coordination of admission, transfer, discharge and overall flow of patients to assure optimal utilization of resources. Continuously monitors and adjusts staffing in nursing units to assure appropriate staffing levels. Acts as administrative representative and communicates appropriate information to administration in a timely manner.

ADDENDUM TO HOUSE SUPERVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION

House supervisors working within the Rapid Response Team Index will be responsible for additional responsibilities across the organization. This nurse has advanced clinical expertise through education and experience. The rapid response nurse assesses patients requiring rapid assessment, critical care, or specialized clinical procedures and stabilizes the patient’s condition. Rapid response nurse helps direct patient care provider to organize the clinical information for communication to the patient's provider.

Communication:
• Respond to codes and medical alerts across the campus
• Communicate with care team on changes in patient condition and intervene to escalate care when clinically necessary.
• Assess patients for acute changes in condition
• Coordinate movement of patients to different/higher levels of care
• Coordinate movement of patients for advanced assessment and clinical testing when necessary

Patient Activity:
• Initiate rescue of patients requiring advanced clinical intervention
• Lead resuscitation efforts for medically compromised patients
• Place orders for intervention per protocol for Rapid Response

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Registered Nurse with current and active licensure in the State of Ohio.
2. BSN or 5 years of clinical RN experience required, MSN preferred.
3. Minimum of three years’ experience at a supervisory level preferred.
4. Evidence of clinical expertise.
5. BLS required.
6. ACLS required (If not current, must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained thereafter)
7. Previous Case Management experience preferred.
8. Weekend/holiday rotation.
9. Flexibility in daily assignment as needed.
10. Physical requirements:
a. visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable;
b. ability to hear (with or without aides)
c. ability to orally communicate
d. good manual dexterity
e. ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally
f. ability to stand, walk frequently
g. ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently; and
h. Ability to perform CPR.
