Job Description:
The policy specialist reports directly to the Senior Hospital Administrator. This position will be responsible for oversight of the forumulation, issuance, and compliance of all UTMC hospital policies, including the process for vetting, approval, archiving, systematic review, and in compliance with Joint Commission and other disease specific program regulatory requirements.
This role also owns the development and maintenance of the central policy repository for the The University of Toledo Medical Center and is responsible for providing expertise on Joint Commission and other regulatory policy content and requirements as appropriate. Provides subject matter expert support and presents vulnerabilities to the Senior Leadership related to policy development, timelines and other related compliance issues. The specialist communicates extensively with hospital leadership and operational team representatives as a resource, consultant, subject matter expert, and point of contact for all hospital wide compliance with policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor Degree and a minimum of five (5) years' progressive hospital regulatory and compliance review of policies required. Will accept seven or more (7+) years progressive experience in hospital regulatory and compliance review or clinical compliance background in lieu of higher education.
• Must have experience in a healthcare setting with special emphasis on policy analysis and development and management skills.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to articulate policy through statements, reports, speeches, correspondence, and other communications.
• Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential information, set priorities, and organize workload.
• Knowledge of editorial standards and practices, including grammar and punctuation.
• Demonstrated ability to perform diverse duties and responsibilities involving knowledge and application of hospital policies and procedures; that requires independent judgment in the determination of action to be taken.
• Ability to analyze data and organization problems, make recommendations for solving administrative problems, and identify effective solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Preferred: Experience with website development and/or maintenance.
• Preferred: Experience with maintaining and/or updating database systems.
